Went out to my ground blind that's been sitting in my neighbor's big field near a swampy, beaver damn filled open area. Nothing. Nothing, until I got out of the blind and saw two deer just coming over the crest in the field. I spooked them both with my first few steps getting out of there. Sat from noon 'til 6:35 p.m.

This is getting frustrating. Gonna sit close to the house, hoping to see some does coming into my clover field. They are hitting my small corn plot near the pole barn, but it's gotta be in the middle of the night as I've not seen one in their since the orphan fawn was hanging there.

Sat in a stand between my big clover field and a smaller plot. It was a bad spot to sit that night with the wind blowing behind me from the north. Didn't matter at all as nothing seemed to be moving. Got down about 6:40 p.m. and saw the bright full moon.

Hunted in a blind that I set up under the tower stand in my clover field. Very quiet evening hunt with no action to speak of. Until I got up to leave and stepped into the field, when I stirred up a doe that had been feeding on the south end, safe for the brush that hid her from my vision.

Went back out to the neighbors field where I had once again moved the ground blind to the north east corner of the hay field. Upon walking to the field I stirred up a deer feeding, which turned out to be the only sighting of deer that hunt.

Sat in ground blind in neighbors front hay field. Saw four total deer. Two fawns, adult doe, and a year and a half old fork buck. The buck and one of the small fawns were within bow range of the blind I was in. Nice to see some deer moving before dusk.

Early doe rifle weekend. Had to wear orange this weekend even hunting with bow. Sat in an abandoned farm stead of an employee. Had my bow, as I didn't have rifle license for her zone. Did not see anything during this morning hunt.

Spent the rest of day and evening with my wife celebrating our anniversary.

Decided not to go out on this morning. Last day of early doe rifle, and intended on hunting the a.m. on my property or the neighbors, but slept in 'til 7 a.m.

Standing in front of kitchen window, taking sip of coffee, I see one of the fawns that's been hanging around. This fawn has been alone for the better part of the last month. Still have the early doe tag, so I grabbed the rifle and some orange and intercepted her going towards my small clover field. Had her in the freezer by 10 a.m. We ate some of the tenderloin for supper!!!

Kurt ended up bagging a huge bear later in the morning. Helped drag the 500 lb bruin out with three other men. Luckily Kurt decided on bringing it in to a butcher, so we averted the tasks involved in skinning a good cape and preserving the meat.

Saturday, October 6th and Sunday, October 7th, 2007

Weird, hot weather all weekend. Saturday was near 80, and Sunday was not much cooler.

Sat in the ground blind on Saturday. Was shirtless for two of the four and a half hours I was out. Saw absolutely no deer, but did get a good show put on by these fellows...

Oh, and Sunday... nothing. Sat up in a tree stand, but nothing but squirrels.

2007 Hunt 7

I had moved my ground blind a little closer to where the four deer came out into the field on Friday afternoon. Hunted the blind Saturday afternoon, even with gusts of 30-35 mph. Only saw one deer come out into the field at dark.

I did run into the little fawn doe going into the field.
