Got the bow out for the last time. Didn't see a thing. Had to give it one more try. Tracks all over the field in front of the tower stand. Had to sit below on ground because all the other tree stands were frozen over.

Finally have a deer hanging in the pole barn! The photo is from last night, our first day of muzzle loader season. Took a doe from the same spot tonight!

Been a long year to say the least. Really fealing a decline in the herd around here. Taking the big doe tonight probably won't help.

Hunted instead of watching Vikes/Packer game...

Saw a doe and her two fawns this afternoon. She must have smelled me, cuz she kept looking, bobbing her head, and stomping her feet. She caught me moving my bow to the other side of a tree, and took off. She came back at dusk with the two fawns, but strayed away from me. A small four pointer came in at last light. Thought about shooting him for half a second, but thought better. Most action I've seen all season!

The small buck stayed around while I let the bow down. I whistled, howled, and yelped but he just kept rooting out acorns. Climbed down and he stayed the whole while.

Cool evening hunt...

Couple views from an old wood box blind that used to be 8 ft up in some oaks before some heavy winds blew her down. I still use it during rifle season and have taken a doe from here. Sitting with bow tonight but I've seen nothing.

*Update: Had a buck come in at dusk. Too dark to make out or even attempt a shot. Nice to see some action finally.

Late Afternoon Hunt...

Took this about 6 PM tonight. Ended up having a doe with her two fawns come in. Let em all go by. Could have taken the doe, but decided the fawns need some learnin'. They were chowing in the field in front of this picture. Hard to make out, but there is a bunch of weeds surrounding soybeans and some sparse corn plantings.

Ground blind hunting in crappy weather.

Vikes win!
Headed out after the game to a ground blind set up over one of the smaller clover plots. Wind had gusts of 40 mph, and it started to rain. Weather radar looks like it may blow over before another rain and wind session rolls through. If it can stop raining before sunset I may start seeing deer.

State Public Land Bowhunt

Sitting in my climber, overlooking a water hole. September has been bone dry and it finally rained yesterday. Found this water hole quite a few years ago in some state land behind my place.
Got set up about 2 PM. Acorns are dropping all around me. Feels like a good spot.

Hot and fending off mosquitos to start the year. Opener was yesterday, but sat it out because of the heat. Couldn't sit today, so we'll see what happens.

Promising Deer Cam Photos...

The best part is the time of day they are coming around the property!

Here is a photo of the tower blind I just finished. Well, except for the tarp roof that I need to spray paint. Camo colors will work a little better than the blue/grey thing.


A little "honey hole" spot that is looking good. Mixture of clovers and chicory.

My second year clover and chicory blend that I've mowed four times already. The mowing has pretty much cleared a lot of grass from the field. I've been seeing a lot of activity in there; a doe and her two fawns as well as a year and a half old buck.

Beans and Corn food plot.

Planted May 30th. Turkey and deer have gotten most of the corn that came up.
