October 31, 2010 Bowhunt

Halloween afternoon. Made shot at adult doe but never recovered her.
Looked like I hit her low in the brisket area. Arrow passed clean through her, but the blood was sparse. We did track blood for about 300 yards, but then it stopped. Hoping it was a non fatal shot, but it's hard to say.

October 30, 2010 Bowhunt

Got out to the same stand a little latter in the day. The wind was blowing the opposite direction, but still at an angle. Didn't seem to matter as within 15 minutes this little guy was the first of about seven deer I saw tonight. He is at 20 yards in this photo. I had several lanes and chances, but I didn't even pick up the bow.
Fun night as this guy and then another seven pointer were chasing does all over the place. The seven had two does running all around the field and eventually into the woods. Ten or fifteen minutes later they came into the field on the north west end after running behind me through the swampy grass.

October 29, 2010 Bowhunt

Finally got back out in the woods after a couple weeks of travel, warm weather and then a full weekend of rain and drizzle. Probably best as it gave me and the lease land a break from plodding around. It also allowed me to bitch about the neighbor's dogs that keep chasing me out of the lease coming out of the woods! Joe must have talked to them because the neighbors at least tried to keep them in their little section and out of the lease!
About a half hour after I took this photo I saw two does come out of the east pretty much at the top and right part of the photo above. The neighbor's dog yipped eventually and those does scrammed. Pretty sure those damn dogs have been running roughshod all over the land all summer and most of the fall.
Around 5:30 does kept filtering in out of the north east corner of the alfalfa field. I counted 12 before it got dark. A young doe got as close as 47 yards about 6:20. Too far and too dark!
Best hunt of the year so far. Very promising; especially rifle season.

October 7, 2010 Bow hunt

Took the day off from work. Moved a ladder stand on the lease mid morning today. Should be a good rifle spot; back in some thick stuff.
Wind wasn't right tonight so ended up in back of the house again. Hope to start seeing some more movement as we get deeper into October.
I've got tomorrow off as well and it's going to be pretty warm; they're calling for mid 70's! Should be a great day, just not that good for deer hunting.

October 3, 2010 Bowhunt

No Vikings game today, but I still got out late. Went to a ladder stand just behind the house. You can see the gun tower overlooking a small food plot.

***Update***
Ended up seeing "Onie", a one antlered one year old that has been bedding by the pole barn all summer. Also saw three doe come in from the neighbor's place north of me. They all scampered when they heard the neighbor's dogs barking. I think one of them ended up coming back behind me or it was another deer that came in from the west. She took off when coming upon an owl that was just behind me. Best night of hunting this year! Going to see about taking a couple of days of this week and try some morning hunts.
